The Angel Gabriel (also known as Gabriel's Message) is a traditional Basque Christmas carol titled "Birjina gaztetto bat zegoen". The lyrics were based on "Angelus Ad Virginem" a 13th or 14th century latin carol. Sabine Baring- Gould (1834-1924) translated the text into English. I Gave My Love A Cherry (also known as The Riddle Song) is an English folksong which dates back to the 15th century. When I was arranging it Brahms' Wiegenlied kept popping into my head, so I decided to make the two lullabies into a medley. This arrangement comes with a C instrument part in both treble clef and bass clef versions. The simple accompaniment to this song is meant to mimic the rise and fall of ocean waves. It's in the key of E minor with no lever changes. In case you don't sing (or have a singer to play with) I have included treble clef and bass clef parts, so that you can play it with a violinist, flautist, cellist etc. If your friend happens to play a non-C instrument, email me, and I will send you a transposed version. The story I have heard about Fear A’ Bhata (The Boatman) is that it was written in the 18th century by Sìne NicFhionnlaigh from Tong, Isle of Lewis for Donald MacRae of Uig, Isle of Lewis. Sìne and Donald married shortly after she wrote the song. I have included the phonetic pronunciation of the Gaelic chorus. Watch: https://youtu.be/UsRIhnIYzNU
From the 14th century, probably from Scotland in Middle English. A narrator sets the scene of a mother rocking her child. The carol is a tender dialogue between the child and his mother who we eventually learn are none other than Mary and the infant Jesus. Harp part is fairly simple, but players should be able to play a two hand bisbigliando and right hand harmonics. Includes pronunciation and translation notes. Need a lower key for your voice? Contact me for a transposed version!

This beautiful Irish tune has been arranged for harp and flute (or tinwhistle). It's in the key of G with no lever changes. Intermediate level with harmonics in both hands. Watch: https://youtu.be/mj58Xi-cM34
I love that the original title for this piece is "Sonata for Harp with Flute Accompaniment"! Harp so often plays the role of accompaniment it is refreshing to have the roles reversed. Although originally written for pedal harp I have arranged it to be playable on the lever harp (tuned to E flat). All lever changes are clearly marked, but some of them have to be very quick. This piece works equally well with violin. Watch: https://youtu.be/8jOSRPcTkyg?si=TllolmdyeJCu6hEn
